City of Leon
The city center has some of the most amazing monuments in Spain:
The Gothic Cathedral with one the most beautiful windows in Europe, Romanesque frescoes in the Colegiata de San Isidoro, also known as the Sistine Chapel of romanic style.
What you'll like at most is the way of living in Leon, being the "tapas" the most important tradition in the "Barrio Húmedo".
What to see in the city center.
We recommend you to walk along the old town, the Jewish quarter, that received the european recognition for the best rehabilitation of a city.
You'll find traditional buildings, with big windows, homely cafes and singular shops.
If you prefer to follow a route, you have several options to choose: el Camino de Santiago, la Romana, la Judía...
In the narrow streets of the old town you can see three important squares: the Main Square, with the old town hall of Leon, the Doves Square, and the Market Square, the one that keeps better the medieval charm.
Architecturally, the most important buildings are Palacio Conde Luna, Palacio de los Guzmanes, and the Calle Ancha (Wide Street), that is the reference point in Leon.
It's also important to visit of Roman Wall, one of the better conserved historic walls in Europe.
